Second place is still good

According to the recently revealed poll, I won second place in a short, *punk story writing contest with my story, A Simple Cog. Its a short story, just under a thousand words but still… I’m happy.

Book Titles, World Development, MP3s and DVDs

I remember when I asked someone to read Wind, Bear, and Moon. The first thing they mentioned was, “Are you open to changing the title?” Blunt, but to the point. Maybe the title sucks, maybe it didn’t. Yesterday, I posted a couple potential ones to replace it, one that Fluffy liked was Flight of the Scions. I’m considering changing the title to something like that; feedback for the poor self-conscious writer is always appreciated.

(EDIT: It got a bit long, so throwing it behind a cut.)

Jewish Rock?

So, in the close to eight hours of driving I did in the last three days, I have learned a lot about the radio stations between here and home. And, I can appreciate the country and rap/r&b (I like both), and I do enjoy Christan rock despite the fact I’m not Christan, but why isn’t there any Jewish rock? Muslim metal? Just seems like there should be some.

So, went back home. Next week, Fluffy is coming here because her aunt broke her shoulder and is going downhill badly. After that, my eight year wedding anniversary, so I’m going back.

It was a good weekend for toys. Picked up three pairs of shoes, including two very comfortable Dr. Scholl business-looking shoes (one black, one brown) and new tennis shoes. My Sleep Number bed also showed up and I spent a happy thirty minutes assembling that myself. Not sure about the new remote, but since I got the cheapest possible with an upgraded remote, maybe that’s normal.

I also got a letter from Fluffy and my USB barcode reader which refuses to work. :( Well, I’m sure I can get it working, just need to put a bit of effort, but I want to see if my hand-made UPC code actually worked properly. :)

I’m hoping to get settled in a bit better this week and start to find my groove. I haven’t really yet, which is frustrating, but its only been a week since I started my job. Which I am enjoying greatly; but I really, really need to get my MP3 player working. The lack of music is driving me nuts.

And writing, still struggling with Best of Enemies, hopefully I’ll finish that this week.

Scroll of the Lands

Last night, I started working on Scroll of the Lands again. Not quite ready to work on a short story or anything, mainly because I want to focus until I finish the book I’m working on getting republished. Kind of strange, coming back to something, it is hard to remember the rules and situations you set up, but also easy to see where something that made sense four months ago now doesn’t.

I think I want to finish this, and relatively soon. Getting it “mostly done” which is as far as any fan supplement can go, is probably doable and would get it off my plate. Plus, work starts on Monday and I’m looking forward to that.

Also still trying to figure out what to do with Wind, Bear, and Moon. On one hand, rewriting parts of it would make it a better story, on the other, it is rewriting it for the fourth time. I’ve picked up more of a feel for steampunk as my thoughts on it get more refined and comfortable; I still like it, but I’ll probably never write “proper” steampunk since I’m not entirely that fond of the Victorian age. On the other hand, I like messy engines, massive mechanicals made of brass and powered by steam engines, and the slightly absurd way of seeing things. So, I’m at least interested in some of the key parts of steampunk.
