Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is a lightweight desktop publishing program that is pretty much the defacto tool for writing, editing, and publishing.

I don't use it unless I have to.

I mean, the entire point of this garden plot is to describe how I don't use Word. It is a good program for many, but it doesn't work for me.

That said, there are a lot of really good reasons to use it and they should be all considered. Writing with Git and text files is a complex and advanced topic. It requires choosing the path less traveled which sometimes leads to a cliff.

Personally, I've been doing it almost exclusively since 2012 and it works for me. I couldn't imagine doing it any other way at this point.
